05/01/18: Be a Member for Life... Coming this fall, it's Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester's first annual ALUMNI ANNIVERSARY EVENT! We are looking for alumni volunteers to:
* Serve on our Alumni Committee and/or
* Be an ambassador and spread the word about the event with fellow alums.

Committee members will help design and publicize the Anniversay Event. The Committee will meet approximately once per month. Ambassadors will be asked to share information (dates, event information, etc.) via email and social media.

03/18/18:

Tuesday: Johnny Laidlaw dropped 11 seconds in the 1000 free bonus event and qualified for NCSA by 5 and 1/2 seconds with a time of 9:34.10 - he swam his first 500 in 4:46.24 and his second 500 in 4:47.86

Wednesday: Maggie Kleinsmith qualified in 20th place in the 100 breaststroke with a personal best and Team Record time of 1:02.91 (which is also a 2018 USA-Swimming AT&T Winter National Champiosnhip qualifying time) - She finished 23rd with a new record of 1:02.80 (and her first 50 was also a Team Record - 29.37). Sabrina Johnston swam the 200 back (2:06.11) and the 100 free (52.74).
Sam Sweeney, Luciano Fernandez, Bo Paruvangada and Christopher Draper swam the 200 medley relay in 1:35.91

Time Trials
: all three swam personal bests: Christopher (200 fly - 1:57.49); Bo (100 free - 48.38); Johnny Laidlaw (100 free - 51.80)

Thursday: Maggie Kleinsmith qualified in a 3-way tie for 24th place in the 50 breaststroke (29.61) with a personal best and Team Record time of 29.26 achieved in the swim-off. She finished in 30th place with a time of 29.50.
Christopher Drape
r swam the 50 breast in 28.56; Sabrina Johnston swam the 50 fly in 26.48; Sam Sweeney swam the 50 fly in 24.66 and Bo Paruvangada swam it in 23.23. Christopher led off the 400 free relay (3:14.42) in a personal best time of 47.73.

Time Trials
: all four swam personal bests: Sabrina (100 free - 52.09); Luciano Fernandez (200 breast - 2:15.40); Christopher (200 IM - 1:57.56); Johnny Laidlaw (200 back - 1:57.44 - and a PB in his first 100 at 57.74)

Friday: Thirteen-year-old Sabrina Johnston swam personal best times in 2 events: 100 back (57.48) and 100 fly (57.76). Bo Paruvangada made his NCSA Cut in the 100 fly with a personal best time of 51.65. Bo also swam the 100 back (53.22). Christopher Draper swam the 100 back in 54.14 and Sam Sweeney in 53.81. Maggie Kleinsmith swam the 200 breast in 2:22.27. Sam, Christopher, Bo and Declan Ahearn swam the 200 Free Relay in 1:28.33.
Time Trials:
Luciano Fernandez swam the 100 breast in a personal best of 1:00.89

Saturday: Sabrina Johnston set a new Team Record in the 13-14 girls 50 back (27.13). She also swam the 50 free in 24.03. Johnny Laidlaw swam the 1650 free in 16:10.71 and re-made the NCSA cut! Christopher Draper swam the 50 back in 25.37 and the 50 free in 22.42. Bo Paruvangada swam the 50 back in 24.76 while Sam Sweeney swam the same event in 25.10.
Sam (lead-off 52.57), Luciano, Bo and Chris swam the 400 medley relay in 3:31.93 and re-made the NCSA Relay Cut!

08/13/17: Marlins at Eastern Zone Long Course Championships in Richmond, Virginia - Congratulations to all!
Emma Zhu swam the 50 & 100 free and the 50 & 100 back, earning 3 personal best times!
Emma made finals in the 50 back (placing 5th) and led off Metro's winning Medley Relay (11-12 girls).

Sunell Zorgman swam the 50 breaststroke in a personal best time!  Marlins coach, Kate Hallex, served as Metro's 10-Under girls coach!

03/08/17: What are the differences between the short course and the long ourse seasons???
Swimming for a club like the Marlins is a year round sport. Each swim season is divided up in short course yards season (SCY) September to April,  and a long course season (LCM) May to mid-August.

During the fall/winter SC season all over the northern hemisphere, meets are held in 25 meter pools, except in the USA where most SC meets are held in 25 yards pools.
During the LC season, most meets are held in 50 meter pools. Olympic swimming is held in an "Olympic Size Pool" which is 50 m long.
Competing in a 50 m pool is quite different from competing in a 25 yd pool. Swimmers entered in a 50 will not have to make any turns in a LCM pool! Swimmers entered in a 100 will only need to turn once at the 50 end of the pool.
Try not to compare your SC Yards times with the LC meter times. Just keep two sets of your best times!
